El Nicho ("the niche": a recess, a comfortable and suitable position) is  a two-storey, 3 bedrooms house  designed for my mother and all the family.

 

This magnificent house is located in the outskirts of an intermediate city in the Andes mountains of Colombia: Ibague.

The geometrical intersection of  volumes defined the construction system. A circulation axis prevails to organise spaces either side. On the ground floor, the north  end of the axis takes the users from the main entrance through the main  focal point of the house  - the double height lounge - down to the south end of the axis  - an open plan kitchen and the gardens - . On the first floor, this axis tops off through a bridge corridor towards the best view the house has: a Colombian chain of mountains.
