Projects Description
Due to the magnitude of the physical and social tragedy caused on 25 January, 1999 by an earthquake and the geographic dispersion of communities needing assistance during the reconstruction of the region, it was decided to commission NGOs to coordinate the physical, social and economic reconstruction of the affected entities.
A zonal management was responsible for the reconstruction of each sector or group of villages in accordance with the provisions of the land use plan. The zonal managers of each ONG through contracts with the Government, were agencies for the reconstruction. An ONG established contracts with professionals in the design and construction industry who helped develop public-funded projects.
FUNDAEMPRESA ONG was appointed by the ‘Fondo para la Reconstruction del Eje Cafetero’ (Fund for Reconstruction of the Coffee-Growing Area,FOREC) to administrate the resources allocated to the physical and social reconstruction of Salento and Circasia villages. This contract was also made possible to execute projects of both, business and social nature in the area.
